It’s that time! Dudley is now 6 months old, and at 50 pounds he is getting to be a big boy. Although Fiona is already spayed, Dudley’s hormones are raging and I thought it would be best to get him neutered before he starts developing bad habits. Thanks to Dr. Sherlock, Emily Burnie and the rest of the staff at EPVVH, I knew he would be in good hands.
His blood work was completely normal and his procedure went great. The night of the surgery Dudley was quiet, and Fiona knew that he was not in the mood to play. The next day, he was the same old Dudley we know and love. The most difficult part of the whole procedure, was keeping him calm. I figured after surgery he would be tired and groggy, but that was not the case. Dudley and Fiona are best friends, and to try and keep them apart is near impossible. I think that was the longest week of my life.
Dudley wanted to run around and play as he normally would, and trying to keep and energetic dog quiet, is an extremely difficult task. The crate became my best friend, and whenever I was not with him, he had to be crated or else he was either licking his incision, or acting foolish with Fiona. After trying my hardest to keep him from licking his incision, I gave up and brought him home an e-collar (you know, the cone of shame that looks like a satellite dish). Did he ever look sad in that!
All in all, everything went wonderful and I didn’t have anything to worry about. Now that he’s been neutered, and his puppy vaccines have been done, he is well on his way to healthy adulthood. The past 6 months have flown by, but I anticipate a long and happy life to come.
