I love taking the dogs walking at the beach. It is one of the only places I can let them burn some of that energy that they seem to have a never ending supply of.
Dudley and Fiona love going to the beach too. On a beautiful day last week, I took the dogs there. When we got to the beach, I could see their face light up. There were about 15 dogs running around with their owners. It was almost like an unspoken doggy social. Everyone stopped and introduced their dogs, which was a great experience for both Dudley and Fiona. I kept them on leash, to ensure no shenanigans would take place.
Dudley and Fiona are both very social, and love other dogs. However, manners come in a short supply with these two. The husky in Dudley likes to bark… and yip… and howl… until he gets close enough to another dog to greet them properly. It makes for an awkward conversation with the other dogs owner, when I’m trying to scream over Dudley’s barking, saying “He’s friendly, I promise”.
Most people were very understanding and allowed him to approach their pet. Fiona doesn’t bark at other dogs, she just jumps all over them and hopes that they want to play. Most dogs that we saw at the beach that day, did not want to play with her.
By the end of the walk, Dudley was walking past dogs with little to say, and Fiona just kept to herself. It was a great day at the beach for the whole family. A great way to burn some energy, and a good source of entertainment and vitamin-D!!
With Easter weekend around the corner, and a promising weather forecast – this may be the perfect opportunity to take the furry family out for a trip to the beach!!
